Caty Royce

Community organizer

Caty Royce brings over 20 years of organizing experience to Frogtown. Caty started her work life as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, West African and then came back to the US and began community organizing with APAC and then spent eighteen wonderful years as the Director of The Community Stabilization Project working to build a voice for under resourced tenants in the metro area. Caty's combination of organizing, housing and community development combined with her commitment to anti racism makes her the perfect fit for Frogtown Neighborhood Association.

Tia Williams

Community organizer

Tia Williams has called Frogtown home her entire life. She was born and raised there, and so were her children. Recently, due to rising costs, she was forced to move to East St. Paul. Displacement from Frogtown is becoming a familiar story, and one Tia is deeply passionate about. Now, with 10 years of organizing experience (6 with FNA) and 2 years of directing experience, Tia's dedicated to making sure the Frogtown community continues to be a place where historically under-resourced people can live and thrive for years to come.

Sara Aegerter

Feeding Frogtown Coordinator

Sara is both new and old to Frogtown. While she was raised in southern Minnesota, she has since moved into the Frogtown home that has been in her family for three generations. This neighborhood feels like home to Sara, and before she knew it her level of involvement grew vastly.

Sara currently serves as the coordinator of Feeding Frogtown meal meetings and assists with the Friday Grocery Gatherings. She also serves on the Energy Cents Coalition as a board member.

Nura Ahmed

Feeding Frogtown coordinator

Nura has been living in Frogtown for over seven years and is passionate about serving her community. Nura has fulfilled a variety of roles in the neighborhood including being elected as the Board President of the Wilder Square Cooperative, volunteering at Frogtown Farm, and now serving as one of FNA’s Feeding Frogtown Coordinators where she leads the grocery gathering and assists with meal meetings.

Nura’s goal is to provide her community with healthy food and to do so by connecting with local organic farmers.

Environmental Justice Organizer FNA

Description 

Organizational Background: Frogtown Neighborhood Association (FNA) works through accountable collaboration, strategic partnerships, neighbor relationships and shared values to ensure the balance and harmony of our neighborhood by focusing on health, the physical environment, arts centered organizing and community wealth building.

Purpose of Position: Environmental Justice Organizer The FNA Environmental Justice (EJ) Organizer will practice and understand environmental sustainability, authentic engagement with diverse cultural communities, and have integrity in advocating respectfully on behalf of residents, businesses and organizations in Frogtown. This position aims to develop an environmental justice lens for FNA; work with an existing organizing committee to explore and reduce the environmental impacts in Frogtown, work with the collective organizations / universities funded by the MPCA’s air monitoring grant and participate in organizational work as needed. Note: FNA’s definition of Environmental Justice is broad and includes connections to economic and political justice.


Responsibilities of the Environmental Justice (EJ) Organizer 

● Contribute to and Develop Frogtown Neighborhood Association’s Environmental Justice strategic process through community engagement.

● Communications and form deep relationships with the Environmental Justice Committee in Frogtown, allied organizations, neighbors, individual advocates, volunteers and staff.

● Assist the organizing team in the development of training coalition partners to move in alignment with the mission of Frogtown Neighborhood Association.

● Coordinate and share results from the various monitoring programs in Frogtown, or advocating for/coordinating air testing, soil testing, community health assessments

● Plan and execute community-based events to engage the neighborhood and mobilize the planning committee.

● Organize and coordinate meetings, set agendas, take detailed notes, facilitate follow-ups, and provide report-backs to committee and community.


Qualifications: 

● 2+ Experience community organizing with diverse BIPOC, LGBTQIA communities preferred.

● Experience building trust and — relationships will be key to this role.

● A knowledge of and history with Frogtown and Rondo are preferred

● Excellent communication skills, and the ability to communicate across different mediums.

● 2+ years experience in the fields of energy, environment and climate justice work preferred.

● Ability to speak language of an cultural community in the neighborhood preferred (Spanish, Somali, Karen, Oromo, Amharic, etc.)

Time Commitment: 25 hours per week Benefits: Part time Position Annual base salary is $50,000/year.
